Detailing your car before you sell it in LA: what is worth doing
What buyers judge in the first thirty seconds, and the order to do things in before the photos.

A private buyer decides in the first thirty seconds. Before the test drive, before the paperwork. They open the door, they smell it, they look at the dash and the wheels. That is where the money is.
What buyers notice, in order
- Smell. Smoke, dog, old fast food. A buyer who smells any of those starts negotiating before they sit down.
- The glass and the dash. Fingerprints on the screen, dust in the vents, a haze on the inside of the windshield. These read as "not looked after".
- Wheels and tires. Brown brake dust and faded tires make a five year old car look ten.
- Paint from ten feet. Nobody inspects swirl marks at a private sale. They see gloss or they see dull.
- Trim. Grey plastic trim ages a car faster than anything else on this list, and it is the cheapest to fix.
What to book
For most cars, a Full Detail covers everything on that list. Add trim restore if the car is more than a few years old.
If the interior has stains or a smell, book the Platinum Interior instead. Steam and shampoo are the only things that take a smell out of carpet, and an air freshener over the top of one fools nobody.
If the car is worth real money, or it has been years since it was properly cleaned, the Platinum Clean does all of it in one visit. On a car selling for twenty thousand dollars, the difference between "clean" and "detailed" in the photos is more than the price of the detail.

What is not worth it
- Paint correction on a car worth under ten thousand. Buyers at that price are not paying extra for it.
- Tire shine over cracked or bald tires. Fix the tires or leave it.
- Covering a smell instead of removing it.
Timing
Detail the day before you shoot the listing photos, then park it in the shade or the garage until you have them. Shoot in the early morning or the last hour before sunset, on a plain background. A detailed car in flat light sells; a detailed car in noon sun on a busy street looks like every other listing.
Then keep it that way. A quick wash before each viewing keeps the first impression where you paid to put it.
