Questions

Mobile detailing, answered

The things people ask us by text every week, answered properly. If yours is not here, text us and we will answer it and add it.

How much is a full mobile detail?

Our Pristine & Clean Full Detail is $135 for a small sedan, $145 for a small SUV or truck and $155 for a large SUV or truck. That covers the outside and the inside in one visit: foam cannon bath, two bucket hand wash, spray wax or paint sealant, then a full blowout, vacuum and wipe down inside. Across Los Angeles generally you will see anywhere from about $120 to $250 for the same thing, mostly depending on vehicle size and how much setup the detailer brings with them.

How long does a full detail usually take?

Two and a half to three and a half hours for a Full Detail on most cars. An exterior only job runs about an hour to an hour and a half, an interior about an hour and a half to two, and our Platinum Clean, which adds clay bar, trim restore, steam and shampoo, takes three and a half to five and a half hours. A detailer quoting you forty five minutes for a full detail is washing the car, not detailing it.

Are mobile car detailing services worth it?

The work is the same standard as a shop; the difference is you do not lose half a day driving there and waiting. We bring water, power, the foam cannon and the steam cleaner to your driveway and you carry on with whatever you were doing. The one thing a shop has over us is a paint booth and a lift, which matters for paint correction and heavy restoration work, not for washing, waxing and interior cleaning.

How much should I tip for a car detail?

Tipping is not expected and never built into our prices. People who want to tip usually land somewhere between 10 and 20 per cent, so $15 to $30 on a $135 detail. If you would rather do something that helps more than a tip, leave a Google review. That is genuinely what gets a one person business found.

Is it illegal to wash your car in the driveway in Los Angeles?

Washing your own car at home is allowed, but Los Angeles has rules about how. A hose has to have a self closing shut off nozzle, and water is not allowed to run off down the gutter. Check the current rules with LADWP or your city, since they tighten during drought years. When we detail your car we work from our own tank and use a fraction of the water a running hose does, so none of this is something you have to think about.

Do you need access to water and power?

No. We carry our own water and can run the whole job without a hookup. If you do have an outdoor tap and a power outlet within reach of the car it makes a big exterior job quicker, so tell us when you book either way and we plan around it.

Can you detail my car at an apartment or a condo?

Often yes, but check with your building first. Plenty of buildings across the Valley allow washing in the garage or the lot and some do not, and a few have a designated bay. If yours says no, we can meet you at a friend’s driveway or your workplace lot instead. It is worth asking before you book rather than on the day.

What areas do you cover?

The San Fernando Valley, the Conejo Valley and parts of Ventura County. That includes Northridge, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Encino, Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Chatsworth, Porter Ranch, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Moorpark, plus Tarzana, Reseda, Canoga Park, West Hills, Granada Hills and North Hollywood. Travel fees depend on distance and we quote them before you book, never after.

How often should I get my car detailed?

In Los Angeles, a wash every couple of weeks, a full detail every three to four months, a clay bar twice a year and a deep detail once a year. The sun here is what sets that pace: it bakes contamination into clear coat and fades black trim faster than almost anywhere else. If the car lives outside, has kids or a dog in it, or is dark coloured, shorten all of those.

What is the difference between a car wash and a detail?

A wash cleans the outside. A detail decontaminates and protects it, then does the same inside. Our exterior packages include a contactless pre wash so grit is lifted off before anything touches the paint, a two bucket hand wash, a blow dry rather than air drying into water spots, and a spray wax or sealant. A drive through does none of that, and the brushes are where a lot of swirl marks come from.

Do you charge extra for pet hair or a really dirty car?

Sometimes, and we tell you before we start, never after. Heavy pet hair woven into carpet, dried spills, sand through every seam and biohazards all take real extra time. A normal used car with crumbs and dust is just a normal job at the listed price.

How do I pay, and do I need to be home?

Payment is due when the car is finished, by whatever we agree when you book. You do not need to stand there for three hours. Hand over the keys, point at the tap, and get on with your day. Just take valuables and child seats out before we arrive.

What happens if it rains?

We call you and move it, at no charge. Rain is the one thing that reliably beats an outdoor detail, and there is no sense doing the work twice.

Can you get stains and smells out of the seats and carpet?

Most of them. Steam and a professional carpet shampoo lift what a vacuum cannot, which is what our Platinum Interior and the steam and shampoo add on are for. Some stains, especially old dye transfer or anything that has set for years, will not come out completely, and we will tell you that when we see it rather than after you have paid.

Still not sure which package you need?

Text a photo of the worst bit and we will tell you the package and the price. No pitch.
